Easter Blessings

Never in a million years did I think the COVID-19 pandemic would last this long and we would be celebrating Easter at home. I don’t think anyone thought that. We may be live streaming our church services from home and enjoying Easter brunch with our dearest loved ones but nevertheless we will celebrate Christ Rising! Easter is so special and one of my most beloved holidays to celebrate. We might have to get more creative this year, but I challenge you to mix with the old and the new and pull out your grandmother’s silver and pair it with your china. You might be surprised how lovely it will turn out!

The apple doesn’t fall from the tree and if you ever wondered where my creative talents come from, it is all my mother. She has taught me everything I know, from baking, to flower arranging and everything in between. We decided to pull together this lovely table for y’all to inspire you and because we love springtime and Easter!

It all starts with a tablecloth in my book. For some reason it’s like the backdrop for your table. I always start there and work my way up. I found this darling one, that was so perfect for springtime. I love the soft palette and the blue and lavender flowers. I actually ordered this months ago to shoot but with springtime weather delays it took me months to photograph! But lucky for you it is still available.

For the tabletop, I wanted a collected look and use things that I already had and also pull things from my Mom’s house. I am obsessed with my dinner plates by Herend that I registered for when I got married so I really wanted to use those. I love the pink and gold details around the edges. For the salad plate, I bought these last year for Easter and they are still available and on sale! I love the little bunny and spring flowers printed on them. So perfect for springtime and Easter tables. This pattern comes with a lot of other items like party crackers, dinner plates, hard mats, tablecloths and more (all on sale). For the glasses, I found these pink ones and I had to get! Y’all know pink makes my heart sing! I will be able to use these with so many of my future tablescapes. The price and quality are great on these. I was very pleased!

For napkins, I have always loved India Amory and found this pretty pink and white set. I embellished them with a monogram in a periwinkle to match the tablecloth. I love how they turned out! Poppy’s monogramming locally did them for me. They also matched the glasses I chose perfectly. For flatware, we pulled out my grandmother and mother’s Chantilly silver. It’s beautiful. I just love that these pieces will be passed down from generation to generation. So special to me. I also scored the silver candlesticks at different estate sales through the years. I love estate sales! I have found some of my most treasured items from them.

Let’s now talk flowers. Since all florists are shut down for the time being, don’t worry; grocery stores seem to still be getting fresh blooms. I scored all these pretties at Whole Foods recently. I always love their selections especially during springtime. I went with pinks and mostly whites to create my look. I wanted the flowers to feel natural. You can even find really pretty wild flowers on the side of the road. So much is blooming right now! Give me all the tulips, peonies and garden roses! For chairs I have always wanted this set of bamboo folding chairs and found these at a great price. I plan on collecting more to have a larger set for the future. They are so great for outdoor spring and summer entertaining.

For sweets, that was a no brainer! You know we love to bake so my mom made her famous sugar cookies (you can find the recipe here) and I made the cake. I picked up some macaroons for the table as well from a local baker, Buttercup Cupcakes. My cake is simple but I wanted it that way because there is so much already going on with the table. Sometimes simplicity is key. The hardest part is getting the icing really smooth but practice makes perfect. I might end up doing a post soon about how to make your cake smooth and what tools I use.

Last but not least, my mom and I have collected Herend bunnies through the years and we scattered them throughout the table. That was the icing on the cake. Every special occasion, like Christmas or my birthday, I usually ask for a new one to add to my collection. They are my favorite and make great cake toppers too. And finally, the location was picturesque. We decided to do it in my parent’s backyard, which is where my wedding was almost 4 years ago. For those of you that don’t know, I grew up on a plantation and my family still farms to this day. Lucky for us, we are able to go out there and get fresh air when the weather is nice during such a not so great time in the world. We are very lucky and fortunate to have such a special place to visit.

During these times, we have all learned a lot about ourselves and also that family is everything. Being able to spend time with my family is so precious and we must not take this time for granted.  They may get on our nerves from time to time, but we will never get that time back. My mom and I loved pulling this together for y’all and I hope this brings some joy and hope to you. I always will continue to spread joy over on Sweet Caroline Designs!

Hope everyone is staying safe and Happy Springtime and Easter!

XO

Caroline
