Charleston Part 2 : Callie's Biscuits

If you love homemade biscuits and carbs then you will love this read! When Paige, Mary and I decided on visiting Charleston we knew we had to grab some of Callie’s biscuits while we were there. We all met Carrie Morey, founder of Callie’s Charleston Biscuits, at the Southern C Summit conference back in February. She was a guest speaker at the summit and her story was inspiring for me, especially being a mother and entrepreneur too.

Carrie started her biscuit business back in 2005 with the goal of making the tender, buttery, made-by-hand biscuits of her mother accessible across the country. She has been featured in Food & Wine, Southern Living and Oprah just to name a few and Carrie and her small team of bakers are keeping the tradition of Southern biscuit making alive. She also has a cookbook, Callie’s Biscuits and Southern Traditions that is a narrative on entrepreneurship and life in the low country. Not only can you order all her biscuits online but she also has several locations you can eat at in Charleston on King Street, the Charleston City Market and in Atlanta. Did I mention she also has 3 beautiful daughters? Talk about GOALS!

We were so lucky to connect with this Southern C Alum and enjoyed a full spread of biscuits and fixings for breakfast on our balcony at the Charleston Harbor Resort and Marina one morning. We had coffee and delicious biscuits with a gorgeous view while wearing another Charleston based brand, Lake Pajamas. The perfect Charleston morning in my book if you ask me.

Our spread was complete with several different biscuit flavors and pimento cheese. We also had cheese grits with all the fixings. Vacation calories don’t count, right? Some of my favorites and also her bestsellers include, Bourbon Maple biscuits, Iced Blueberry biscuits, County Ham biscuits and the Cinnamon biscuits. The cinnamon might be my favorite because I LOVE sweets. My mouth is watering just writing this post.

If you are not visiting Charleston anytime soon don’t worry because her complete menu is available online at Make sure you order in advance because everything is made to order from scratch. Yes, scratch! She also has biscuit making kits and pimento cheese. If you live near her shops she also has biscuit making classes you can attend.

May 29th is also National Biscuit Day so order some biscuits to celebrate! Not only has Carrie built a wonderful business and provided many jobs she also has a strong message. I love this quote she recently said, “Being a Biscuit means holding yourself in high regard. Feel good about yourself. Be confident.” – Carrie Morey

Can breakfast be like this everyday? Thanks Carrie, staff and Callie’s Biscuits for the ultimate Charleston breakfast experience!
